The community has been in existence since before the Civil War. In the spring of 1864 a Confederate train was reported to have chased a Union train near Tasso. The Confederate troops were camped nearby. Gold and other historic relics including military goods that were on the Confederate train are proposed to have been buried near Tasso. The name Tasso was adopted in 1905.
